Saying public health indicators are beginning to improve, the Ford government is announcing that visitor restrictions at long-term care homes are being relaxed.
Starting Monday, the number of designated caregivers for each resident will go from two to four – though only two can visit at a time.
Residents who’ve had at least three doses of a COVID vaccine will be permitted to resume social day trips.
The restrictions, including not allow general visitors to the facilities, took effect in late December because of surging cases of the Omicron variant.
General visits by anyone five and older who’ve had at least two doses will be allowed to resume February 21.
Also starting that day, residents will be allowed to have three visitors at a time, all residents can go on social day trips; regardless of their vaccination status, residents who’ve had at least three shots can go on overnight social absences, and day programs, as well as entertainer visits and personal care services can resume.
Then on March 14, children under five will be allowed to visit again, residents will be able to have four visitors at a time and all residents; regardless of vaccination status, will be allowed to go on overnight social absences.
