There is every indication Ontario’s premier will announce Friday morning at 10:30 he is invoking new emergency measures and possibly a state of emergency as a way to end the various protests, occupations and blockades across Ontario.

Doug Ford is holding a news conference at that time, alongside the solicitor general, attorney general and transportation minister.

On Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford condemned the protests, declaring that the ongoing “illegal occupation” and blockade of the the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor needs to stop.

Shane Wark is with Unifor and told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, the blockage at the Ambassador Bridge is not a workers’ movement.

“All of the workers I’m talking to want to go to work, want to make a day’s pay, and be part of the community. What’s happening here at the Ambassador Bridge is putting many many thousands of workers on reduced hours and layoffs,” Wark explained.

The Ambassador Bridge situation will be the focus of submissions Friday to an Ontario Superior Court justice.

Windsor has been granted intervener status in an application for an injunction that would stop protesters blocking Canada-bound traffic at the Ambassador Bridge crossing.

Meantime, staff at the crowdfunding website GiveSendGo are blowing off the Ontario government’s move to freeze the $8-million raised for the organizers of the anti-COVID-mandate protests in Ottawa and elsewhere in Canada.

The company has tweeted, “Know this! Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo.”
