A 14-year-old faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder in yesterday’s shooting inside Scarborough’s David and Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute.
Police say a boy approached 18-year-old student Jahiem Robinson from behind and shot him before running after another 18-year-old.
When the gun was pointed at him, police say luckily it didn’t fire.
Toronto Mayor John Tory is asking the questions that many are asking.
”Why do we have so many guns around here? Why do those guns end up if ever in the hands of anybody; let alone 14-year-olds? Why does a 14-year-old or somebody of that kind of age take it to school? And why do they use it?,” wonders the mayor.
”Those are all probably questions that have different answers and I just think we’ve got to do a better job than we have been doing at getting to the bottom of those answers because things like this keep happening. Fortunately not as often in our city as elsewhere. But it doesn’t matter. Once is one time too many.”
It’s the second fatal shooting at a local high school.
15-year-old Jordan Manners, a Grade 9 student at North York’s C.W. Jefferys Collegiate, was shot in May 2007.
