Most of the world stood against Moscow at the United Nations where the General Assembly voted to demand Russia stop attacking Ukraine and immediately withdraw its troops.
The vote was 141-5 with 35 abstentions at the assembly’s first emergency session since 1997.
Countries that voted against the resolution included Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Eritrea.
Abstentions included China and India, as expected, but also two usual Russian allies, Cuba and Nicaragua.
General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding but have clout in reflecting world opinion.
In the meantime, Russia escalated its attacks on cities even as both sides were set to hold more talks Thursday.
