Justin Trudeau is wrapping up what he calls a productive two days talking to world leaders in Europe. Facing mounting pressure to ramp up defence spending by NATO’s Secretary General, the Prime Minister says Canada will increase its military investment but was shy on details.

“We continue to have those discussions at home, we have a budgetary process underway right now and we have a further NATO meeting in Spain in the coming months, those are all things that are ongoing.”

NATO’s secretary-general says leaders have agreed to present their military spending plans by June.

Trudeau also announced that Canada is imposing sanctions on 160 members of the Russian Federation Council. That brings the total number of sanctioned people with links to President Vladimir Putin to 964.
