The former Canadian Armed Forces commander has pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in connection with a sexual misconduct investigation, and received a conditional discharge.
In a joint statement of fact, Jonathan Vance concedes to contacting a woman last year to try to convince her not to report the extent of their relationship to the military police.
The statement of fact says she resisted and told Vance should would tell them about their past relationship while he was the country’s top soldier and she was a subordinate.
The conditional discharge means despite the guilty plea, Vance will not have a criminal record as long as he abides by several conditions, including completing 80-hours of community service, reporting to a probation officer for one year, and not contacting the woman for a period of 12-months.
Vance was not charged with any inappropriate sexual misconduct.
