C.W. McCALL OF "CONVOY" FAME DIES AT 95

Zoomers of a certain vintage will remember the CB Radio craze of the 1970’s and the singer who help popularize them through the trucking ballad “Convoy.”

Bill Fries, who performed under the name C.W. McCall has died.

Fries got his start in advertising.  The song “Convoy” grew out of a ad campaign for an Iowa bread company

It reached No 1 on the charts in 1976 and was turned into a movie by Sam Peckinpah.

Bill Fries’ son confirmed his father had been in hospice care for about six months.

Bill Fries was 95.
