Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of gruesome atrocities in his country during an address to the United Nations Security Council.
Appearing via video and speaking through a translator, Zelenskyy said those responsible should be brought up on war crimes charges immediately.
Likening the Russian troops’ actions to those of Islamic State terrorists, he said ”the Russian military and those who gave them orders must be brought to justice immediately for war crimes in Ukraine.”
”Anyone who has given criminal orders and carried them out by killing our people will be brought before the tribunal, which should be similar to the Nuremberg tribunals,” he said.
Recent images of civilian massacres on the outskirts of Kyiv before Russian troops pulled back from the capital have been denounced by Moscow.
The Kremlin suggests the images were staged by the Ukrainians.
