In France, climate extremes this spring have again created a race against time for vineyard owners to protect their crops from frost.
..
Wine growers says they’re tense, in particular since last year’s harvest was poor and resulted in one of the lowest levels of wine production in years.
A warm trend in March caused the vines to begin developing. The past few nights have been very cold and growers have lit up the vineyards with oil lamps to try and keep the vines warm.
France produces about 16% of the world’s wine and employs more than 140-thousand people in the wine sector.
