There’s been an arrest in last Thursday’s brazen daylight shooting of Indian international student, 21-year-old Kartik Vasudev outside Sherbourne subway station, and 35-year-old Elija Mahepath on Saturday near Moss Park.
Police say the pair were ”apparent strangers” to the accused.
Chief James Ramer says surveillance video evidence was able to make a link between the killings, tracing the suspect to his residence.
”Given that he had already killed two apparent strangers, as we allege, and that a cache of firearms was located in his residence, we can reasonably conclude that the quick work of our investigators has prevented a further loss of life,” according to the chief.
”My personal opinion is that there were going to be more victims.  When?  I don’t know, but he had an arsenal at home, and I quite frankly believe this might have been the first step.”
”I think the intention was to continue,” Chief Ramer adds.
While acknowledging both victims were visible minorities, police are not speculating on motive.
”We can’t say with certainty that he (the accused) would have in fact been able to see their ethnicity,” says Homicide Detective Sergeant Terry Browne.
