Ottawa’s keeping the mask mandate for air and train travellers even after an American federal judge in Florida struck down the requirement south of the border.
Saying the federal government will change the rules only when the experts feel it’s safe to do so, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra says ”for now, it is what it is.”
His comments come the day after the judge in Florida ruled the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention failed to justify the mask mandate and did not follow proper regulatory procedures.
The decision allows airlines, airports and public transit systems to make their own policies.
Major airlines and airports in places like LA, Dallas and Atlanta are making wearing masks optional, while New York City is one of the few remaining holdouts to continue requiring masks in its airports and on its public transit system.
