The Canadian Opera Company has announced its new season and will welcome audiences back to live opera for the first time since the pandemic hit.
It’s the first full season under General Director Perryn Leech who spoke with The New Classical FM about the new season.
“I think as we come back into live performance, there has to be the same mix of excitement of things that you know and new productions of things maybe that you don’t know, I think there has to be a mix of everything,” said Leech.
“It’s very easy to put on an opera season where everybody goes, oh, that’s nice I’ve seen most of that before but I hope what we’re doing is bringing great artists from all over the world and celebrating Canadian artists as well.”
Wagner’s brooding The Flying Dutchman will open the season October 7th which also includes three COC fan favourites, several dramas and a new production of Verdi’s MacBeth.
