Another COVID-19 milestone for Toronto. Mayor John Tory says the city has surpassed 7-million total doses administered.
“I’m happy at the fact that Torontonians can see the city and see themselves moving to a different stage of the pandemic where life is a bit closer to normal, but I’m concerned that we still have lots of ground to make up with respect to third and fourth doses in particular,” said Tory.
Medical officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa adds that those 12 and older are almost 92 % double-vaxxed and 57 % triple-vaxxed.
“One year ago, if you had told me we would reach this milestone in Toronto, I don’t think I’d believe you, last year at this time in fact, only 40% of Ontarians had received one dose,” said Dr. de Villa.
She added that between December 2021 and April 2022,the risk of hospitalization among the unvaccinated was double that of those with three doses.
