While it involves Marilyn, it turns out she might have been wrong when she sang “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
Turns out it could Andy Warhol’s 1964 silk-screen of Marilyn Monroe, known as “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn.” It’s going to auction tonight in New York.
It’s estimated it’ll sell for $200 million.
If that comes to pass, it will be the highest price ever for any American work of art at auction and would also eclipse the international record of almost 180 million dollars, paid in 2015, for a Pablo Picasso.
The sale, at Christies, is also expected to show whether top quality trophies continue to command record high prices, despite all the instability in the world right now.
