The mayor of Uxbridge has a resquest for out of towners.

“Don’t come and see us,” Dave Barton explained to The Morning Zoom with Sam and Jane, “We already have our own traffic to manage. We have heavy equipment and cranes and hydro workers all over the place. When you come through town, you just get in the way, so please avoid downtown Uxbridge for the next week or so.”

Dave Barton also described the damage caused by Saturday’s powerful storm, which has prompted a state of emergency in Uxbridge.

“This storm hit our museum at the western part of the town and tore a strip right through a heritage established neighbourhood. It hit the local arena which lost its roof. We have old growth trees right through the community that have been wiped out and landed on houses. Everyone’s favourite brewery The Second Wedge has huge damage and I’m not sure if they can save the building. It ran through our train station and then took out lots of damage to multiple churches in town and our most historic neighbourhood,” Mayor Barton detailed.

In addition, the mayor says the roof was torn right off a local arena.

But despite the destruction, he says residents are coming together to help each other.

He also says he received a commitment from Doug Ford for whatever they need to get back to normal.

There are still power outages not just in Uxbridge and in another devastated area near Ottawa, but in pockets right across the province.
