More than 150,000 customers in Ontario are facing their third day without power after a deadly weekend storm and it may take days for power to be fully restored. Uxbridge and Clarence-Rockland, east of Ottawa remain under a state of emergency.

PC Leader Doug Ford is offering condolences to families of people who were killed in the deadly storm. He also thanked utility workers and others responding to the damage.

Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca says if elected, his party will be open to the conversation of providing homeowners with financial help if their homes become seriously damaged by an extreme weather event.

Green leader Mike Schreiner says his party is committed to the immediate delivery of an emergency grant to help small businesses recover from the devastating storm last weekend.

According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, it’s too early to project insurance claim tallies, but that home, auto and business insurance will play a key roll in the recovery. The Bureau says severe weather caused $2.1 billion in insured damage last year, stemming in part from November flooding in British Columbia and summer hailstorms in Calgary.
