The city’s first case of monkeypox has been confirmed.
Toronto Public Health says the individual remains stable and is recovering in hospital.

Health officials have also received confirmation that two residents, who were categorized as suspected cases, have tested negative.
Four newly suspected cases have been reported to Toronto Public Health as well – bringing the total number of probable cases to one and suspect cases to four.
These five individuals are undergoing lab testing to confirm if they have the virus and are currently recovering at home.
Monkeypox is a rare disease that comes from the same family of viruses that causes smallpox, which was declared eradicated in 1980, but monkeypox generally does not spread easily and is transmitted through prolonged close contact.
