After four days of parades, street parties and a gala concert celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years as monarch, the Platinum Jubilee ended Sunday with the crowd outside Buckingham Palace singing God Save the Queen.
And the crowd was rewarded with a short appearance by the Queen herself.
The Queen, glorious in green was flagged by her three heirs; Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George.
She stepped out on that famous Buckingham Palace balcony to deafening cheers.
It was the Queen’s way of thanking her loyal subjects and closing out the Platinum Jubilee celebrations
The 96-year-old monarch, limited by what the palace calls “episodic mobility issues,” made three brief public appearances during the Jubilee.
Her son and heir, 73-year-old Prince Charles, stood in for her at other events.
Royal biographer Hugo Vickers told The Associated Press that it feels like the “tail end of a golden reign.”
