Created last year as a key part of the City’s Tenants First plan, Mayor John Tory is officially launching the Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation.
The focus being to provide services for tenants 59 and older.
“We’re talking here about 15,000 people in 83-buildings, and that’s a lot of people.  They’re people that are very special … because of their stage in life,” says Tory.
”You might say ‘well what does it matter who owns the building,’ that’s not what matters.  What’s going to matter is that we’re going to make a bigger effort, because we can by having those 15,000 people and those buildings in a separate corporation to provide a broader range of services.”
Services that the mayor says can be better coordinated through Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation.
Toronto Community Housing Corporation will continue to own the buildings and be responsible for repairs.
