Ukrainian and Russian forces are battling fiercely for control of the eastern city of Sievierodonetsk.
The plodding battle for Sievierodonetsk has devolved into street-to-street fighting that has been relatively rare in the invasion that began February 24th.
The city is emerging as central to Vladimir Putin’s grinding campaign to illegally capture Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland, known as The Donbas.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the outcome for Sievierodonetsk could determine the fate of the critical Donbas region.
At a military hospital in eastern Ukraine, surgeon Dr. Serhii Sleisarenko says his hospital is filled to capacity.
Meantime, the head of the UN’s Agriculture Organization is calling on Russia to release grain from Ukrainian silos to ease the global food crisis.
Ukraine is one of the worlds largest exporters of wheat, corn and sunflower oil, but invading Russian forces have put a stop to most of that flow.
