At a technology conference in Las Vegas, Amazon announced that it is developing a new feature that would mimic the voice of family members, even if they are dead.
Amazon revealed that it has developed a way for its Alexa voice assistant to replicate the speech of a dead relative, based on less than a minute of recorded audio of the original person.
The company says the feature is designed to build greater trust in the interactions users have with Alexa by including more human attributes such as empathy.
In a video played by Amazon at conference, a young child asks “Alexa, can Grandma finish reading me the Wizard of Oz?”
Alexa says yes then switches to a voice mimicking the child’s grandmother.
No word on when the feature may be available.
