The Pierre Lassonde Family Foundation’s donation is the largest arts-related gift Toronto has ever received.
The $25-million is to go toward creating a waterfront public art trail, that will run through parks on along the banks of the Don River on Villiers Island in the Port Lands.
There will be two permanent pieces — one Canadian and one international — and a rotating cycle of contemporary installations from local, national and international artists.
Mayor John Tory says the art trail ”will not only attract residents and visitors to Toronto’s waterfront, but provide an opportunity for people to experience art and much more for free … all of which play a big role in bringing art to public spaces in our city.”
