She was a champion of black theatre acting talent and a star of the British TV show “Eastenders.”
Mona Hammond has died at the age of 91.
The Jamaican-British actress was best known for playing the matriarch Blossom Jackson on Eastenders in the mid 90s and reprised the role briefly in 2010.
Hammond also co-founded the groundbreaking Talawa Theatre Company in 1986 to help address the “lack of creative opportunities for black actors and the marginalisation of black peoples from cultural processes”.
“Eastenders” airs on our sister station One TV.
