BLACK OPERA SINGER PROTESTS "BLACKFACE"

An american soprano has pulled out of “La Traviata” over blackface being used in a performance in Verona, Italy.

Angel Blue posted a note on her Instagram page saying she’s bowing out because of the use of “archaic” theatrical practices is “offensive, humiliating, and outright racist.”

In 2019, American soprano Tamara Wilson, who has played leading roles with the Canadian Opera Company, protested against darkening her face to play an Ethiopian woman, in a staging of “Aida” in Verona.
