Britain’s Prince Harry spoke about his late mother’s connection to Nelson Mandela during a keynote speech to U.N. General Assembly’s annual celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day.
He also challenged people everywhere to adopt Nelson Mandela’s spirit of hope in an uncertain and divided world to reclaim democracies and leave a better future for children.
“The cost in inaction will be paid by the next generation,” he said. “In its strength and deeds, Nelson Mandela’s legacy shines as brightly as ever.” He touched on a number of issues including climate change during Monday’s celebration of the late South African leader.
Harry said a photo of Diana meeting Mandela in 1997, shortly before her death, is on his wall and “in my heart every day.”
