A garden that celebrates the friendship between Canada and the United States is celebrating its 90th anniversary.

The International Peace Garden sits on the border south of Boissevain, Manitoba.

It features formal gardens with some 80,000 flowers, a conference centre dedicated to peace, and a monument that includes remnants of the World Trade Center from the terrorist attack in New York in 2001.

Tim Chapman, the garden’s chief executive officer, says the quiet, pastoral setting is a perfect place to contemplate the relationship between the two countries.

Visitors can walk back and forth across the border as they stroll through the flowers, some of which are shaped like the Maple Leaf or the Stars and Stripes.

The anniversary celebrations include a weekend of historical exhibits and cultural performances on July 30th and 31st, along with a 1930’s-themed dinner.
