Canadian civil rights lawyer Clayton Ruby has died. He was 80.
His Toronto law firm says he was a dedicated advocate for human rights, a champion of the underdog and a loving friend.
Ruby was involved in several landmark cases in his decades-long career.
He represented Guy Paul Morin who was wrongfully convicted of a murder before being exonerated in 1995 . He also represented former M-P Svend Robinson in a case involving medically assisted death.
Ruby was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2006. He retired over a year ago. He was partner at Ruby Shiller Enenajor DuGiuseppe, a Toronto-based law firm that specializes in criminal, civil, regulatory, and constitutional litigation.
