A Canadian Forces veteran seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress and a brain injury says he was shocked when he was casually offered medical assistance in dying instead of treatment.
The combat vet didn’t raise the issue nor was he looking for MAID and says he feels betrayed by Veterans Affairs Canada that assists vets.
He was apparently making progress in recovery before reaching out for help but the unprompted offer for assisted dying disrupted his progress and his family’s wellbeing.
In a statement, Veteran Affairs says it’s aware of the situation and ‘deeply regrets what transpired’ and that appropriate administrative action will be taken.
