87 YEAR OLD AUTHOR EARNS A BOOKER NOM

At 87, British author Alan Garner has become the oldest writer to be shortlisted for the Booker Prize.

His book “Treacle Walker” took eight years to write.

It tells the story of the friendship between a healer and a young boy.

On being the oldest ever to be recognized for the prize, Garner said that age, in itself, is irrelevant – adding as with all skills. an apprenticeship has to be served with practice and experience.”

The prize, which is worth about $75,000 CDA will be announced October 17th, which is Garner’s 88th birthday.

Previous Booker winners include Canadians Michael Ondaatje and Yann Martel and two-time winner Margaret Atwood
