York Regional Constable Travis Gillespie was killed in an early morning collision as he was heading into work.
Gillespie, 38, driving a Honda Accord was involved in a crash with a Porsche Cayenne on Major Mackenzie Drive near Warden Avenue around 6 a.m.
The 23-year-old Markham driver of the Porsche was taken to hospital.
No word on his condition.
The cause of the collision is being investigated.
York Regional Police have handed the probe over to Peel Region Police ”in order to ensure members of York Regional Police are not further traumatized.”
Before becoming an officer in April 2020, Gillespie worked as a special constable for Metrolinx/GO Transit.
