Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to scrap the country’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate at the border and make the ArriveCAN app optional for travellers entering Canada.

Cabinet is meeting this afternoon but cabinet approval is not required to allow the order to expire, set for the end of this month.

The order that’s expiring also affects mandatory and random testing for international travellers.

Masking rules for airplanes and trains are not contained in the same order and are being discussed separately.

The official announcement is expected Monday.
