Oscar-winner Louise Fletcher has died.
The American actress set a new standard for screen villains with the role of Nurse Ratched in 1975’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and her performance earned her the Oscar.
Fletcher was a relative unknown when picked to play Nurse Ratched, after leading actresses including Angela Lansbury and Ellen Burstyn, had turned down the part.
Fletcher began her acting career in the 1950’s, but paused for more than a decade to raise her children.
Louise Fletcher’s agent says she died at her home in France, at age 88.
