SINGER-SONGWRITER ANITA KERR DIES AT 94

She was the founder of the Anita Kerr singers and Zoomers of a certain age will remember them opening Roy Orbison’s classic “Only the Lonely” in 1960.

Anita Kerr was the backup singer who helped build the “Nashville Sound” of the 1950s and ’60s,

She was a singer and composer who also backed up Brenda Lee on “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.”

The Anita Kerr Singers recorded their own music and won three Grammys; beating out the Beatles for “Help,” The Beach Boys for “Good Vibrations” and The Mamas and The Papas for “Monday Monday.”

Anita Kerr died earlier this week in Geneva.

She was 94.
