A Mi’kmaq filmmaker, considered a visionary of modern Indigenous cinema, has died from cancer.
Jeff Barnaby was raised on a reserve in Quebec and directed a number of short films including the Jutra Award-nominated “The Colony” and the Genie-nominated “File Under Miscellaneous.”
The Montreal-based writer-director also gained acclaim for his 2013 debut feature, “Rhymes for Young Ghouls.”
Jeff Barnaby was 46.
