The Competition Bureau is launching a study of the grocery industry to see if the sector is contributing in any way to the rising cost of food.
The move comes after grocery prices rose in September at their fastest pace in 41-years — up 11.4% compared with a year ago.
The competition watchdog says it’ll explore how the government might act to tackle the issue.
The bureau will submit recommendations for the government in its report, that it plans to publish in June.
The move comes after the Commons unanimously voted in favour of an NDP motion calling on the Trudeau Liberals to tackle ”corporate greed” in the supermarket industry.
