The premier and former solicitor-general missed the first Question Period at Queen’s Park in six weeks.
That way Doug Ford and Sylvia Jones did not have to face questions about their decision to fight the summons to appear before the public inquiry into the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act to deal with last winter’s ”Freedom Convoy” protesters.
Ottawa NDP MPP Joel Harden asked why Ford doesn’t want to testify.
Government House Leader Paul Calandra explained that it’s a policing matter, not a political one and that the province has also supplied documents to the inquiry and that two senior bureaucrats are set to testify if summoned.
Last week Ford said he had not been asked to appear before the inquiry, but commission lawyers say the premier and Jones repeatedly refused requests to appear voluntarily.
