The Ford government has announced what it calls its boldest housing changes to date.
“The legislation supports our new plan to further reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies that delay construction and increase costs for homebuyers and renters,” said Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark. “It also supports greater density near transit as well as measures to protect and help homebuyers and use provincial lands as sites for more attainable housing.”
The bill would also loosen rules for projects with fewer than 10 units, reduce the role of regional governments to approve housing projects and cut the number of public meetings municipalities must hold.
A reduction in developer fees is also included.
Earlier, Doug Ford used a speech to a Toronto business audience to outline the proposed new legislation that he says will make it easier to build “the right type of housing in the right places.”
The new goal of the ‘More Homes Built Faster legislation is to get 1.5 million more homes built over the next decade.
