By Saturday, gas prices will have gone up 20 cents a litre in three days across the Greater Toronto Area.

As of Friday morning, the cost of regular at most GTA gas stations is a $1.79.9 a litre.

Add four more cents at midnight and on Saturday, gas will be posted for $1.80.9.

This is in the neighbourhood of what gas price expert Dan McTeague forecasted when he spoke with The Morning Zoom with Sam and Jane on Zoomer Radio earlier this month and also talked about what we can expect in the coming months.

“I don’t see us going back to $1.30 or $1.40. I do see more likely it will be $1.70 to the $2 range, and don’t forget December 31st is the last day the provincial government holds off on its reduction of its sales tax on gasoline, so add another 6.4 cents a litre come January 1st,” McTeague explained.

But the days of driving gas powered vehicles will eventually come to an end.

In fact, European Union lawmakers and member countries just reached a deal to ban the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars and vans by 2035.

Under the agreement, carmakers will be required to reduce the emissions of new cars sold by 55-percent in 2030 before reaching a 100-percent cut five years later.

According to EU data, transportation is the only sector in which greenhouse gas emissions have increased in the past three decades.
