German authorities claim that fake blood was sprayed on a Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painting from the 19th century in a Berlin museum.

Although the incident seemed to have no connection to recent climate activist protests, it was reminiscent of them.

Damage to the work was being inspected.

A person allegedly hurled a liquid substance at the glass-covered “Clown” in the Alte Nationalgalerie on Sunday before gluing one of their hands to the wall next to the piece, according to the foundation that manages several of Berlin’s museums.

Security personnel stepped in right away.

The fabric-covered wall of the room where the work was located needed to be cleaned of glue and dye.
