Lacome, Alberta’s Candy Greff is this year’s National Silver Cross Mother.
Greff says she is honoured to have been chosen to lay a wreath at the National War Memorial on Remembrance Day on behalf of all mothers who have lost children in service to Canada.
Her son, Master Corporal Byron Greff. was killed by a suicide bomber in October of 2011 while working as a military trainer in Afghanistan.
He was the 158th Canadian soldier to die during the Afghanistan campaign and the last before Canada’s mission there ended in 2014.
