The leader of last winter’s massive protest in the capital says she was never told to leave Ottawa.
Tamara Lich and other organizers have told the public inquiry into the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act last February, that police never directly told demonstrators to go home.
A lawyer representing residents and businesses reminded the Public Order Emergency Commission that GoFundMe shut down Lich’s fundraising campaign because the protest was deemed to be an unlawful occupation.
Paul Champ also pointed out that the city of Ottawa and province declared states of emergency, and local residents even launched a lawsuit, and asked why Lich didn’t take that a a message to leave.
However, Lich says the protesters had a message too, and that was of more concern to her at the time.
