He was an award winning film director and playwright who spanned genres like the film adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma,” and the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Woody Allen’s crime farce “Bullets Over Broadway.”
Douglas McGrath began his career as a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and later teamed up with a fellow SNL writer on a 1988 a novel called “Blockbuster,” which parodied big money and big egos in Hollywood.
McGrath’s death was announced by the producers of his solo off-Broadway show “Everything’s Fine,” who said the cause was a heart attack.
