Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk used his own social media platform on Monday to endorse Republicans for the midterm election cycle, telling voters they should cast ballots for a Republican Congress.

Musk’s announcement comes months after he first announced plans to vote Republican earlier this year.

The billionaire CEO of Tesla believes that having a government split between two parties is ideal, and noted President Biden’s possession of the White House for Democrats before saying Congress should go to Republicans.

“To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic,” Musk wrote. “To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic.”

Musk, 51, recently purchased Twitter for $44 billion. Since his acquisition, a number of Democratic celebrities have said they either have deleted their accounts or plan to do so.
