She has won the $100,000 Scotiabank Giller Prize for her book “The Sleeping Car Porter.”
The 55-year old writer was honoured last night at a gala in Toronto.
“The Sleeping Car Porter” follows a gay, black, train porter on a particularly difficult trip through western Canada in 1929.
The Scotiabank Giller Prize is awarded annually to the author of the best Canadian novel, graphic novel or short story collection published in English.
