There is good news for GO Bus riders.

A tentative deal was reached Thursday evening for 2200 Metrolinx workers that will get southern Ontario’s GO Transit bus service back in action starting Saturday.

Negotiators for Metrolinx and the Amalgamated Transit Union announced the tentative three-year agreement to end this week’s strike.

Rob Cormier represents the workers and says the main issue on language around contracting out and safety was addressed.

“With regards to the contracting out, we have seen improvements to that language to protect our members through attrition and retirements. So we did get that. In terms of wages, we are still capped under Bill 124, so it’s one-percent compensation, so wages weren’t really an issue and they haven’t been addressed,” Cormier explained.

Workers walked out Monday, prompting the cancellation of GO bus service across the Greater Toronto and Golden Horseshoe Area.

The tentative deal goes to a ratification vote in the coming days.
