Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children will put some surgeries on hold to preserve critical care capacity amid a rise in patients.
In a statement late Friday, the hospital says its intensive care unit has been at nearly 130% above capacity for several days now.
As of this Monday, Sick Kids will be prioritizing urgent, emergency and the most time-sensitive surgeries.
It is unclear how many procedures could be impacted by the change.
In Hamilton, McMaster Children’s Hospital has been working at 140% over capacity in recent days.
