The most active volcano in the world, Mauna Loa in Hawaii, has begun to erupt, spewing volcanic ash and debris.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the eruption started late on Sunday night in the Big Island volcano’s summit crater.
The agancy stated that lava flows were restricted within the summit area and posed no threat to adjacent villages early on Monday.
Residents at danger from Mauna Loa lava flows were advised by the agency to review their eruption preparations.
Scientists had been on alert due to a recent spike in earthquakes at the summit of the volcano, which last erupted in 1984.
