Kirstie Alley has died of cancer at the age of 71.
Her death was announced Monday by her children on social media and confirmed by her manager.
Kirstie Alley starred on the NBC sitcom Cheers as Rebecca Howe from 1987 to 1993, after the departure of original star Shelley Long.
She had her own sitcom on the network, Veronica’s Closet, from 1997 to 2000.
John Travolta, who starred with Alley in three Look Who’s Talking movies, was among the stars who paid tribute to her online.
Travolta posted a picture of the two of them smiling at each other, writing “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
Jamie Lee Curtis worked with Alley on the TV series Scream Queens calling her a great comic foil and adding that they agreed to disagree about some things but had a mutual respect and connection.
Alley found controversy over the years as a vocal defender of Scientology.
