One-fifth of all passenger cars, SUVs and trucks sold in Canada in 2026 must run on electricity under new regulations. By 2030, the mandate will hit 60 percent of all sales and by 2035, every passenger vehicles sold in Canada must be electric.
Ontario M-P Julie Dabrusin is the parliamentary secretary to Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault.
“Owning a zero emission vehicle in fact less cost for maintenance, it is less cost for the refueling or the charging of that vehicle, and it’s something people know is also important if we want clean air in our communities driving kids to hockey and alike,” remarked Dabrusin.
Manufacturers or importers who don’t meet the sales targets could face penalties under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
