After Christmas, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family will spend a week travelling in Jamaica.

Trudeau will stay in touch with Ottawa throughout the trip, according to the Prime Minister’s Office, and will continue to receive briefings and updates on concerns.

In order to ensure that the trip complies with regulations, the P.M.O. says it also consulted with the federal ethics commissioner before leaving.

Trudeau had been found in violation of conflict-of-interest rules in 2017 after a 2016 vacation he took to the Aga Khan’s private island in the Bahamas.

Even when travelling for personal purposes, the prime minister must board a Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft due to security concerns.

The government spent roughly $57,000 on the family’s flights to and from Costa Rica throughout the 2019 holiday season, and thousands more on the flight crews’ accommodations in San Jose.
